Blazor Deferred Remove

Get notified when CSS transitions complete on CSS Properties (or CSS animations), so you can do stuff in blazor.

Allows you to do stuff like, stop rendering a blazor component, only once the fadeout transition completes on a CSS visibility property etc.

Usage

  1. Add the BlazorDeferredRemove nuget package to your blazor project: https://www.nuget.org/packages/BlazorDeferredRemove/

  2. Include the following js script on your index.html page:

Components

There are a couple of lower level components, which you could use directly, as well as a couple of higher level components with a specific task in mind.

The low level components are:

  • CallbackOnCssAnimationEnd
  • CallbackOnCssTransitionEnd

These components are general purpose and simply raise a callback on the blazor side in response to a given CSS property transition (or CSS animation) completing on the JS side.

For example, suppose you have some CSS targeting the 'fadeout' class, that does a CSS transition on the 'visibility' property:

The OnCompleted handler above would be invoked once that CSS transition has finished on the JS side.

Note: If you don't specify a CSS propery name (or Animation Name) parameter, it means the call back will be invoked in response to ANY css property transition (or animation) completing within the child content DOM. In the callback on the blazor size you can then inspect the css property name (or animation name) to determine what to do.

There are then a couple of higher level components that use the above Callback components but with the specific goal of ommitting their content from the DOM once the transition or animation has finished:

  • RemoveOnCssAnimationEnd
  • RemoveOnCssTransitionEnd

RemoveOnCssTransitionEnd Example

The following example renders some UI that will be removed once a CSS property transition has completed for visibility property:

Explaination

In the sample above, the content is wrapped in a RemoveOnCssTransitionEnd component. This component will stop rendering (omit from the RenderTree) its child content, once it detects that a CSS transition has been completed on the specified CSS property - in this case, thats the visibility propery:

Notice that the content is a div whose CSS class is provided by the GetClassName() method. This returns the fadeout css class once the button is clicked.

This means when you click the button, the CSS class fadeout is appended to the div - simple. We then have some CSS for the fadeout class, that applies a CSS transition on the elements visibility property (and opacity but that doesn't matter for this sample):

This means that when you click the button, the css class is appended, which starts the CSS transition. The transition adjusts the visibility property to hidden after 2 seconds, and adjusts the opacity to 0 over the course of 2 seconds, linearly. This achieves our fadeout effect.

Once that CSS transition has completed, our RemoveOnCssTransitionEnd component is notified from the browser (interop) that the CSS transition has completed for a visibility property within it's child DOM content. It being a blazor component, it then stops including its child content in the render tree - which then removes the child content from the DOM.
