What is Kubectl?

Kubectl is the Kubernetes command line interface.

TL;DR

$ docker run --name kubectl bitnami/kubectl:latest

Why use Bitnami Images?

  • Bitnami container images are released daily with the latest distribution packages available.

Get this image

The recommended way to get the Bitnami Kubectl Docker Image is to pull the prebuilt image from the Docker Hub Registry.

$ docker pull bitnami/kubectl:latest

To use a specific version, you can pull a versioned tag. You can view the list of available versions in the Docker Hub Registry.

$ docker pull bitnami/kubectl:[TAG]

If you wish, you can also build the image yourself.

$ docker build -t bitnami/kubectl:latest 'https://github.com/bitnami/bitnami-docker-kubectl.git#master:1.18/debian-10'

Configuration

Running commands

To run commands inside this container you can use docker run, for example to execute kubectl version you can follow the example below:

$ docker run --rm --name kubectl bitnami/kubectl:latest version

Loading your own configuration

It's possible to load your own configuration, which is useful if you want to connect to a remote cluster:

$ docker run --rm --name kubectl -v /path/to/your/kube/config:/.kube/config bitnami/kubectl:latest
